Let's start this off with an update on the Stencyl Jam contest. I lost. Not much more to say about that without sounding like a sore loser so we'll just move on. Haha

Okay. So the main reason for this journal entry is to officially announce that the next Adventures of Kroma game I am working on is now going to be in full color instead of Chromadepth 3D. I loved how the effect worked and I will make other games in that style but for my larger projects, I think I am going to stick with full color. Not many people even know what Chromadepth 3D is even after I try to explain it to them so there is no real reason to keep my larger projects in 3D when almost no one will get to appreciate the game as it was meant to be played.

Some of you may have seen the first set of mockups I posted and you can see that I am using the same tiles and sprites as before but just giving them proper color and more detail. I will be making brand new tile sets for this game as well since now that things are in color, some of the tiles just won't work for certain areas like the caves.

There are also going to be some new play mechanics added that I could not fit into the Stencyl Jam game for one reason or another. So this means there will be things such as: throwing rocks, flying, swimming and boss battles.

I have also found someone on Newgrounds who is teaming up with me on this project to make around 10 music tracks. That means real chiptune music this time around which is something I was really hoping for.

This project is already off to a great start and without the worry of a deadline, I will be able to make this a much larger and way more polished game.

I will be posting lots of mockups and random images from this as I continue working on it to get feedback from everyone so keep your eyes open.

About the contest: To be honest ... who cares? I hope you don't. And more important: You FINISHED a game. That's way way more important to just start an other project. Finished projects are extremely valuable. So again: Stencyl Jam ... who cares? :)

Regarding making »Adventures of Chroma« more colorful. I don't think this is the right way to go. You choice of colors for the previous version - I call it »ZX Spectrum palette« - was very appealing to me. Very retro-like. That was one point that let you game stand out from the crowd.

For example: Look at this game developer and his game »l'Abbaye des Morts«:

www.locomalito.com/abbaye_des_…

It's a game with similar - not exactly but close - color palette like your game. And this IS fun. So colors don't make good gameplay.

All this is of course just me. :) Still crossing fingers for any projects.
